“Inspect What You Expect to get What You Want at Your Top Home Business!”

There's an old saying that goes, "You've got to inspect, what you expect."

It a phrase that all top home based business professionals should keep in mind and do it everyday -- to do less might end up costing you tons of “moolah”!

Let me explain why it's such an important, but simple concept.

Regardless of the kind of home based small business you're building, ultimately you're going to be working with others to create sustainable success. You'll be bound to outsource or delegate work to outside experts at some point in time. I mean let's face it, nobody can expect to build a work from home company completely by themselves.

If you've ever worked with people you know there are all sorts of opportunities for misunderstanding. Especially these days, where much of the outsourcing and delegation to your virtual assistants is done via email …. and often with a language barrier if your VA does not speak English as their first language.

Now we've opened the field to misinterpretation, misunderstanding and perhaps even misrepresentation of vital facts.

Once you've delegated a task, regardless of how small, it is essential that you monitor the work to make sure it gets done right and on time. You must build in the "inspecting what you're expecting" discipline into your daily at home based business routine.

As an example; Let's say you hire a painter from the classifieds to paint your house. And let's also say, he shows up at your home with no drop cloth, no ladder -- just a bucket of paint and a brush. Would you allow him to begin the work? I doubt it. It would be easy for you to see that he doesn't know what he's doing, right?

The problem is, we see home based small business owners doing what amounts to the same thing every day. They hire someone to do an important job, then they fail to adequately monitor the status and quality of that work on a regular basis. If the work product is ends not up to snuff -- guess who is ultimately responsible? You! The top home business owner!

Remember, delegation without follow-up, is abdication! The final responsibility is yours.

If you're just staring out, even if your goal is only to earn extra money from home, you may decide you want to outsource some of your technical work to others so that you can spend your time more strategically. Believe me, that is an excellent idea and I'll spend more time on that in another article.

However, I have some words of caution. A friend of mine hired out a fairly large scale technical job and failed to follow the “inspect what you expect” concept. Several months, thousands of dollars and hundreds of lost leads later, he realized the person he'd hired to do the job, had not really done what he agreed to do.

Whether the contractor knew his work was not up to speed, or whether he thought he implemented exactly what my friend wanted is still a matter of debate? But it is important to note that there were some lessens to be learned.

Regardless of whether the contractor was intentionally deceiving my friend or not -- the ultimate responsibility for the system failure was my friend's.

Why? Because as the at home based business owner, he was the one that did not "inspect what he expected." He could have completely avoided the nightmare had he just done that one thing.

There are hundreds of stories like this, but if you're smart, (and of course you are or you would not be reading this now), you'll learn quickly to implement that important discipline into your outsourcing routine.

And honestly, this is just one of hundreds of similar pitfalls you'll want to avoid as you work to create your successful work from home company.
