"You Can if Everyone is on the Same Page!"
If you've decided to build an at home based business, chances are you're looking forward to getting your office set up, your schedule laid out, and you're ready to get to work.
Then your spouse says, "Honey, would you mind doing this one thing?"
Uh,oh! Caught between a rock and a hard spot. Your home based small business is now an easy target for honey do's, and on the other hand, part of why you decided to work from home is just because of the ability of being able to manage your time more efficiently.
What to do? The reality of a top home business is that you are going to need to be available to do at least some of the household chores and personal stuff during "normal" working hours.
After all, one of the main reasons people want to be able to earn extra money from home is to get more control over their personal lives! The whole point is to be able to go for a workout at the gym when the lines for the stair-master are non-existent, or you can get your manicure on Tuesdays, and you can get the furniture delivered between noon and five on Friday.
So then, how do you keep these personal chores and honey do's from being time sucking vampires? How to you manage your time, get everything done you need to get done at your top home based business, and STILL have a life?
You've got to start with a VERY detailed calendaring plan. Schedule time to get a manicure, or to go to lunch with a friend, or to go to the gym -- just like any other business appointment. If there are good after school programs for your kids, sign them up to give you more quiet time between 3:00 and 6:00.
Look at all the tasks you do and ask yourself if you are really the one who should be doing that job. If your kids are old enough, pay them to mow the lawn and shovel the walks. Or find someone who can take those tasks on for a fraction of what it costs your at home based business for you to be away from the helm.
Even if you aren't making huge profits yet, your time as CEO should be worth more behind your desk than behind your lawnmower.
Some people say you've also got to be really good at multi-tasking and I'd agree --- to a point!
It's easy to put a load of clothes into the laundry, turn on the DVR to tape two TV shows, then go back to your office and work on your top home business strategy. Theoretically, you're doing three things at the same time. But two of them take NO brain power.
Just be careful doing two brain powered activities at the same time -- like talking on the phone and answering emails. Neither will be done effectively and you might negatively impact something you will regret!
Be especially considerate to your spouse. He or she is also doing the very best they can -- so make sure you take time out of your busy schedule everyday to let them know they are appreciated.
