Better Biz Cards Mean More Biz!

Seems like these days so many people don't have business cards anymore. So many at home based business entrepreneurs are conducting business online and they don't see the need to carry around excess stuff. "Just check me out on Twitter," they say.

All well and good if you've got a real top home based business where people know you by reputation. But if you're just starting out and need all the clients you can get, having a business card can be one more tactic in your marketing strategy. Unless you're a hermit, you'll be meeting people face to face who could be your client or who could refer clients to you -- so be ready to let them know who you are and what solution you provide.

The thing to keep in mind here is to set your home based small business apart. Use your imagination to be memorable. Business cards don't have to be boring. The more they can capture the essence of you top home business, the more memorable they will be. The more likely they are to be kept. And ultimately, they will bring your work from home company even more business even if you desire is to just earn extra money from home!

Here are some tips to get you started:

Basic Cards - a basic card is usually a white or ivory background printed in black or dark ink. Its no nonsense approach will appeal to clients who just want the facts. It's simple and the information is clear and concise. It's also likely to get lost in the noise. Go for something a little bolder!

Picture Cards - personally, I used to hate these. They seemed "smarmy" somehow, but now people have their pictures everywhere. I love to go through my "Rolodex" and see the face that matches the name. At my age, it really helps with recall - :o) There are some great ideas to do with pictures these days -- really jazz it up to be more memorable.

Tactile cards - a great way to make your card stand out is to search out non-standard materials. I've seen many business cards that are refrigerator magnets. Embossing your logo can also create a memorable feel to your card. These are a bit more expensive to make but are guaranteed to get attention!

Multi-purpose cards - a good card can do double duty. You can set up an appointment on the card, or provide a space for the recipient to write notes about where he met you and a few words about his initial impression. It could also provide additional information about your business. My personal favorite is the business card that does double duty as a beer bottle opener!

Just remember -- regardless of the design you decide on, don't forget the details. One of my clients designed a killer card for her top home business-- it was perfect for the business, the right colors, the right design -- the right everything. Except it included ZERO information about how to contact her.

So make sure, you proof your cards and insure that they include the essential information -- name, website address, phone number, email, Twitter ID, Facebook ID, or any other pertinent information you deem necessary? What is important for your clients is what should be on your card.

These are an inexpensive way to increase your client base for your work from home company and they can be a lot of fun! Don't forget to drop one in the jar at your favorite restaurant -- maybe you'll get a free lunch!
