Every kid wants to have the newest, coolest, baddest Halloween costume going, but they can be pretty pricey! If you're like alot of us these days, saving money on one-time costumes is high on our list of priorities.

With a little imagination and a few store-bought items, you can put together and original costume for you little goblins.  Here are just a few ideas:

Max From Where the Wild Things Are

You'll need: oversized grey sweatshirt and sweat pants, and old sweatshirt hood, oversized socks and gloves, some felt, bottons and a fur tail (fake of course)

How to do it:  You'll just really need a big hooded sweatshirt grey or white -- using the felt, add some large pointy ears to the hood -- these can be sewn on or attached with a glue gun.  If you're going to use the sweat shirt again -- and why wouldn't you, I would recommend sewing them on with big stiches that will be easy to take out later. Add some terrifyingly- large claws to the gloves and the socks.  Again, make these with the felt -- you can roll the felt into claw like spikes that will look spooky and be perfectly harmless.  Find some oversized buttons to sew on the front of the sweatshirt to make them look like pj's.  If you don't have any around, just make them out of cardboard. Finally, using an old "boa" or some fake fur from a fabric store, pin the tail on the pants and your Monster is complete!

Cost: Less than $30

Princess Tiana From Princess and the Frog

You'll need: Because this princess is already so popular you should consider buying her trade-mark classic green petal and vine dress -- unless you are a very handy seamstress.  You'll need materials for a star wand, glitter and "jewels", a tira -- which can be made from lightweight cardboard, and of course a stuffed frog. A little glitter make up will make your princess feel special.

How to so it:  Assuming you've purchased her dress all you have to do is the wand, tiara, hair and makeup. You can make your own star wand, painting it gold or silver and decorating it with glitter and jewels -- a glue gun works wonders for attaching the jewels. Of course, the princess wears her hair in a bun, so if your princess has long enough hair, put it up and decorate it with glitter and jeweled barrettes. Fashion a tiara or crown from the light weight cardboard, and paint it the same color as her wand. Pin in to her head with bobby pins. Because the princess' dress is sleeveless, you might want to have your princess wear a long-sleeved flesh colored t-shirt or some opera length gloves and a green wrap of some kind. Her shoes could be balarina flats or white tennis shoes decorated with glitter, ribbons and flowers. Her outfit is complete with the final addition of her stuffed frog companion.

Cost: Less than $40 -- tights, shoes, shawl, and frog are assumed to be in your posession already.
